“This legislation is crucial for approving and financing important environmental infrastructure projects that protect our state’s drinking water and waterways,” said Stanfield (R-8). “The funds authorized by this legislation will not only create jobs in New Jersey, but will preserve and protect the environment—which is so critical to our quality of life. Ultimately, providing an affordable financial strategy to upgrade critical infrastructure throughout the state will protect the public health of all New Jerseyans.”

Senate Panel Endorses Measure to Create Business Tax Credit for Hiring Recovering Addicts

Stanfield’s bipartisan bill, S-2228, would establish the Recovery Tax Credit Program to incentivize the hiring and continued employment of qualifying residents who are in recovery from substance use disorder.

“New Jersey has a responsibility to help individuals who have made the decision to get clean and have put in the work to get off drugs,” said Stanfield (R-8). “A stable job and the possibility of a brighter future is a necessary component for recovering addicts as they fight to rebuild their lives.”

The new law disqualifies any person convicted of human trafficking from operating a commercial motor vehicle. The bipartisan measure, S-356/A3089, also sponsored by Senator Vin Gopal, S-356/A3089, passed the Senate with a 39-0 vote on March 3, and the Assembly approved it 77-0 on March 24.

Stanfield Resolution Protecting Delaware Bay Horseshoe Crabs Clears Senate

The Senate today advanced a bipartisan resolution sponsored by Senator Jean Stanfield and Senator Bob Smith that would help protect the horseshoe crab population in the Delaware Bay.

New Jersey has a moratorium on the harvesting of horseshoe crabs, but the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission ASMFC, which has managed the crab population in the Delaware Bay since 2013, approved a policy change in January that may allow for harvesting female horseshoe crabs.

Stanfield’s resolution (SR-67) urges the ASMFC to continue prohibiting the harvest of female horseshoe crabs, except for research or vaccine development.

The bipartisan bill, also sponsored by Senator Vin Gopal (D-11), S-356/A3089, disqualifies any person convicted of human trafficking from operating a commercial motor vehicle. Endorsed by the Assembly today, the measure passed the Senate 39-0 on March 3.

“Box trucks, 18-wheelers and other commercial vehicles are too often used to secretly shuttle victims to new locations or across state lines,” said Stanfield (R-8). “Human trafficking is a heinous crime conducted in the shadows of every region of our nation.

Bill Would Create Tax Credits for Purchasing Commercial Trucks, Elective Vehicle Charging Stations

The bill, S-429, would provide corporation business tax and gross income tax credits to incentivize commercial zero emission vehicle fleet conversions and installation of electric vehicle charging stations.

“The tax credits established by this measure will make it even more attractive for corporations, business owners and residents to embrace the ecological and economic benefits of electric vehicles,” said Stanfield (R-8). “The transition from carbon fuels to renewable electricity for cars and trucks will help clear the air and improve New Jersey’s quality of life.”
